The Drum & Bass Thread (formally Drum 'n' Bass is dead?)
Posted on: 19.08.2008 by Random X
Every now and than, a musical genres foremost poet or pioneer will come forth claiming the style is dead.

We've already seen it in punk, hip hop, metal, rock and opera already.

Stupidest thing even, that this seems to be some kind of "retro- cycle" that passes along every decade.

With the coming of styles like dubstep amongst others, purists are really keen on claiming that these styles are no derative or subgenre of our beloved DnB.
Better yet, they utter the words "DnB is dead!"

If your own creative impulses can't cope with a style any longer, why claim it is dead in the first place? Couldn't it just evolve into other (sub)styles?
No, kill your idols instead!
There seems to be no better way to start something new, than completely destroy any relations with the past.

How can a genre with high BPM rates be dead, while comparing it to the ever so low BPM rates of the ever so vivid dubstep?
Ofcourse, BPM rates are not a factor in this case, but people listening and enjoying DnB are.
There are still heaps and heaps of bass-heads still jumping their shoes to the sounds of d&b pioneers as Krush, Bukem, Dom & Roland and all others still producing.

Agreed that the old spirit needs to be revived. Still, it's no reason to don the old lass after that much joy she has given us.

Drum and Bass is dead? It seems ever so vibrant as it was in 1996!

Oh true.

lol you can pick the Ewun track out easy as.

I know what you mean by visionary. Its very... as you say, different. Slightly is awesome man, he comes from a metal background so he uses heaps of that, his tracks are deep as and mix so much shit into them. The more you listen the more your like 'oh fuck yes'. I'm working on a few tracks with him atm.

Theres another track of his that you should listen to on his myspace called 'panic' probably more your style, while still very different ;]

Theres also one dub that I probably shouldnt have given you as its not mastered and completely unreleased (Slightly - Visionary). Its pretty fuckn cool. Kinda jungle, kinda dubstep, kinda metal/rock not really a banger but either way fk'n sic tune, . Just dont give it to anyone else..

Ewun - Wiretap

You WILL play this. Its fucking siic. 1/2 way between breaks, DnB and Godzilla stomping over downtown LA wearing high heels while talking on a cellphone.

Yeah fair enough. I just cant miss Ewun Caspa or C4C tbh. Toys are win... cant wait for Ableton8 and the APC40!

Yeah man should be fkn deeeep. Will find out if we can get power to the property today. If so... fuck yes! That would be mint!

My parents have 2 properties near each other, one has a full on house on it etc which is where they are living and we can stay there (its fkn mean), but there is also the other property which is 10 seconds from their personal beach and there is pretty much no one around, but it has no house on it etc. If no power IMO we get a car with decent sounds and crank that.

All depends on the Weather as well.

I will hunt for some epic DnB tunes. I believe I have one or 3 in mind 4 u.

hard, thats the best reveiw ever. the tune may be shallow, but you got to admit, any tune that sounds like -Shakira had sex with the singer from Evanescence and produced a gremlin which cut it's own throat with a rusty blade
and then sung into a toy microphone in the helium filled bathroom of a derelict Romanian towerblock, -is fucking good. it would have taken a long time to create such a noise, and a lot of...magic... and money

Yeah I believe it actually makes the music sound good ;]

That is the most awesome review ever.

It actually sounds like a good thing to me. (I mean, I wouldn't complain seeing Shakira have sex with the lead singer from Evanescence)

lol, this tune is getting some hate over on Dogs on Acid

"This sounds like Shakira had sex with the singer from Evanescence and produced a gremlin which cut it's own throat with a rusty blade
and then sung into a toy microphone in the helium filled bathroom of a derelict Romanian towerblock."

That sounds like a quote from you Kaon. Gold.

TBH I can kinda see where they are coming from. I liked the tune at first but then the more I listen the more shallow I see it is when comparing it to true classics.

^ what this evil techno-hippie said.

Also we have some of (if not 'the') best natural environment in the world. Pristine beaches, tropical islands, snow, epic rain forests, awesome diving and water stuffs, crazy canyons / sounds. Pretty much everything... and its all within a few hours of each other. (Less if you fly). Awesome.

i love this country, if i want green i can always get it -except for right now cos i have no money as for the economic climate, we're in the same boat as everyone else, but i believe less people here care. DnB is everywhere, even in the tron now

Went to an awesome mid week d&b gig last evening .

Its the 1st week at Uni this week so the biggest club in our city (confusingly also the largest in NZ) got concord dawn in, which is fucking wierd coz they are by no means a dance bar and have never done anything like that before.

But it fucking went off! 800 tickets sold before the gig and there would of been well over 1000 people there.

+ we had The Collective on all the posters because one of our crew (evade) opened for Concord.

Makes up for the countless hours I spent there while at uni trying to pick up while dancing to r&b
